This temple was built in the mid 10th century by king Rajendravarman I dedicated to Hinduism. East Mebon Temple has five main towers built from brick, laterite, and stucco. The sculpture at the East Mebon is varied and exceptional, including two-meter-high free-standing stone elephants at corners of the first and second tiers. The stairways of the tiered base are flanked by lions.
