What can we learn from a monarch who lived over eight centuries ago?

For years, I have been fascinated by the concept of the "Philosopher King," particularly through the works of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. His reflections prompted me to consider what it truly means to lead with wisdom, compassion, and a sense of responsibility.

Gradually, these questions led me back to history—and to my own roots.

To King Jayavarman VII.

He is widely known as the "Builder King," celebrated for the temples, hospitals, rest houses, roads, and numerous other structures erected during his reign.

Yet, the question that intrigued me most was not merely *what* he built.

It was *why* he built them.

What was the purpose behind these constructions? And what can his vision and perspective teach us today?

This marked the beginning of the journey of study, research, and writing that eventually became the work known as *Prajñā Karuṇā*.  If you are interested, you can book directly via this page or Rean Ruos Books 🙌
