Understand: Visakha Bucha is a major festival in Buddhism, considered an important Buddhist event to commemorate the Buddha Gautama Buddha. On the full moon day, the 15th day of the month of Visakha, Buddhists, both monks and laypeople, often perform rituals, believing that it is a great merit.
The celebration of the 15th day of the month of Visakha is determined by Buddhist scholars in the first scriptures as a very auspicious day, a very auspicious day, corresponding to the day when the Buddha:
1- He was born from his mother's womb
2- He realized the supreme enlightenment
3- He passed away and entered Nirvana
-Birth
The venerable Gotama was born on Friday, the full moon day of the month of Visakha, in the year of the Buddha, in the Lumbini Park, under a salaprakash tree, located on the border of the Kapilavastu region. and the gods at noon.
On the day of Siddhartha's birth, seven things were born: the princess Pimpaya Sodhara, the Ananda, the Chanda Amatya, the Kandakaja Ajaneya, the Kaluthai Amatya, the Maha Bodhi Preksha, and the four treasures.
- Consecration
The sixteen-year-old Siddhartha was consecrated with the princess Pimpaya Sodhara on the full moon Sunday of the month of Katika, the year of the Monkey. After reigning for 13 years, he had a son named Rahula Koma at the age of 29.
-Building a temple
At the age of 29, Siddhartha set out to build a temple on Thursday, the full moon of the month of Asada, in the year of the Rat, on the banks of the Anoma River, the very day that Rahula Koma was born.
-Enlightenment
The Venerable Gotama attained the supreme enlightenment at the age of 35 years on Wednesday, the full moon day of the month of Visakha, in the year of Raka, under a Bodhi tree, west of the Neranjana River, in the center of Gaya, now called Bodh Gaya.
-Deliverance of the Dhammacakkapavattana Sutta
The Buddha delivered his first sermon, the Dhammacakkapavattana Sutta, on the full moon day of the month of Asada, in the year of Raka, to the five monks who were ordained in the order of the Eighteenth Order. The Buddha performed the five duties of the Buddha for 45 years:
1- In the morning, he went on alms-giving journey
2- In the afternoon, he preached the Dhamma and healed animals
3- In the evening, he gave advice to the monks
4- In the evening, he solved the problems of deities
5- In the morning, he contemplated the nature of all beings.
The Buddha entered the age of Sankhara on the full moon day of the month of Makha.
- Parinirvana
The Buddha passed away on the full moon day of the month of Visakha in the year of the Monkey, under the Bodhisattva tree in the west of Kusinara. For 45 years after his enlightenment, the Supreme Buddha preached the Dharma for the salvation of all beings, consisting of 84,000 Dhamma Khanas, divided into Suttas, Disciplines, and Abhidhammas.
Visakha Bucha is recognized by the Royal Government as a national holiday of Cambodia. In 1999, nearly 200 member countries of the United Nations unanimously approved the recognition and recognition of Visakha Bucha as an international Buddhist holiday.
The ancient scholars refer to this Visakha Bucha as the day on which the Buddha was born, attained enlightenment, and entered Nirvana.
For this reason, the ancient scholars designated the full moon day of the month of Visakha as the day for performing rituals and ceremonies, which has continued to this day.
