International research partner involved in the conservation of the Preah Theat Baray temple: Preah Theat Baray temple is located in Siya Ampil village, Baray commune, Srey Santhor district, Kampong Cham province, which is in the territory of the former medieval Khmer capital called "Srey Santhor". Preah Theat Baray temple was probably built in the 11th century in the Baphuon style, but was modified the area in front of the temple to worship Buddhism in later period (14th-15th centuries) during Theravada Buddhism was popularly worshiped in Cambodia. Due to the belief of the local people around the temple, villagers built a roof made of zins to prevent rainwater from seeping into the temple, but the roof was very old, broken and cracked, causing rainwater to flow into the temple. By 2020, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, with funding from a partner project called the "Middle Period Capitals and Related Sites" led by Dr. Martin Polkinghorne, funded a construction of a new tiled roof to preserve the temple from rainwater as well as to facilitate the worship of the people. Be informed that Dr. Martin Polkinghorne is an Australian researcher who has research experiences in Cambodia from 2011 to the present and has participated in training skills for students as well as many Cambodian officials.
